villa Yolanda
our home on the beautiful island of Poros, where we have spent many happy summer vacations and where we hope you will create some great memories to cherish.
Dora & Andreas
Hi - "Ya sas" in Greek !
We are Dora and Andreas, your hosts at villa Yolanda.
We are very fond of our home and will be working hard to make your stay with us enjoyable, relaxing and memorable.
And rest assured, if you need anything (easy), we are here to help :-)
Our home
Villa Yolanda is located at Askeli which is one of the resort areas of Poros. Fully renovated and restyled in 2023, villa Yolanda offers a great mix of location, quiet, great views and stylish accommodation aiming to offer you relaxing and memorable holidays.
Facing south-south east above the bay of Askeli, we enjoy the best possible orientation, with the sun lighting all apartments in the morning and offering good shade after 3-4pm in the afternoon.
Most everything is within walking distance from villa Yolanda.

Hi all!
I’m your host Dora. Ex HR professional, presently enjoying my “retirement”, looking after villa Yolanda.
I love cooking and so maybe, just maybe, I could prepare something for the team one day during your stay.

Hello world!
I'm lucky to be the main beneficiary of Dora’s culinary prowess and while I’m still professionally active, villa Yolanda is my great hobby. I’m responsible for the renovation and new design of villa Yolanda. I am also the villa’s not-so-successful gardener and carry out tasks handed out by “management”…

Leda
daughter
Hi everybody!
My main role here is to make sure these two remain cool and in sync with the times…
I am the social media manager and also help out during summer time. Not too much though, since summer time is when I take a break from my university studies :-)

Hugo

Hi all
I'm responsible for villa Yolanda security.
No cats allowed.
By the way, do you have a spare bone or somethin’ ?
the Apartments
All apartments face south-southeast – the best orientation if we may say so - overlooking the bay of Askeli.
Overall styling of the apartments is “modern-cozy”. Furniture is of light/modern lines, walls are painted earthly shades of blue and brown and we have added touches of funky early-morning-sun-yellow-mustard colour here and there.
All modern amenities (kitchenware, AC, TV, Wi-Fi etc) are available.
We hope you like it!

How to find us
Villa Yolanda is a 30 minute leisurely stroll, or a 4 minute drive from the port of Poros.
Take the main road direction "Monastery”, cross the small bridge over the canal and continue straight. At the fork on the main road keep to your right. When you reach the Golden View hotel turn left and follow the road, going uphill into the forest. You will get to another fork; keep going straight (keep left).
After about 450m you arrive at Villa Yolanda - Welcome to our home!
Poros island
Poros is a family-oriented island or for those young couples/people who do not necessarily seek the intensity of some of the better-known Greek islands. It is very green, with a selection of beaches (sandy and small pebbles), good food and with most everything in easy reach; you can walk to all places on the island (especially from our home).
Poros is not one island – in fact it consists of two islands: the smaller volcanic Sferia and the larger pine-covered Kalavria. The two are separated by a 3m wide and 1m deep canal that allows small boats to go directly from Askeli bay to Neorio bay.
Sferia is where the village and port of Poros are built. It is volcanic.
Kalavria is where most resort areas exist. It is also home to the temple of Poseidon. This is definitely worth a visit. You are able to see north all the way to the island of Aegina and even Athens on a clear day. And close by there is a great taverna where you can enjoy a very wholesome rooster with spaghetti …
Fantastic!
Poros (one of only two male named islands of Greece) means “narrow passage” and at its closest Poros is only about 200m from the Peloponnese. This gives it some great advantages:
As you sit at one of the many cafes/tavernas at the port, the passage is like a motorway. During high season, sea traffic never stops with myriads of sailing boats, yachts, the water taxis, the commercial catamarans and other craft criss-crossing the channel all day long. Some say that if you are technically inclined, it even beats people watching!
The short ferry crossing takes only about 5 mins from Poros to Galatas (the village opposite Poros on the Peloponnese) and sails twice per hour. So Poros is a gateway to the Peloponnese, itself a great place for excursions to some fantastic locations. You could even catch the catamaran to the islands of Hydra and Spetses as a day excursion and some additional island viewing!
Unlike some other beautiful Greek islands, you never get “stranded” on Poros due to bad weather and no ships sailing. Not that it would be bad if you did get “stranded”, but say you need to catch a flight the next day… on Poros you are covered :-)

Location and main beaches
Villa Yolanda is located at “Askeli” which is one of the resort areas of Poros. Most everything is within walking distance of us. If you prefer not to walk, there are many places where you can rent e-bikes and ATVs by the hour, day or any longer period that works for you. Alternatively a taxi ride from villa Yolanda to the port of Poros is about €6.
Poros town and the port
20-25 minutes stroll, downhill to start with and then flat.
In the evening this is an especially nice walk and much preferable to driving, since during peak season parking at the port can be a challenge. On your way back, you may walk or just grab a taxi (about 6€).
Monastery beach
This is about a 2.5km walk from villa Yolanda.
You walk past Askeli beach, then it is uphill for about 1km and then slightly downhill to the Monastery and Monastery beach.
There is a well organised beach where you can enjoy drinks, snacks and more. You can even book your umbrella and sun-beds to make sure your spot in the sun is kept for you to arrive any time you wish.
TIP: It's best to drive from villa Yolanda or take a water taxi from the port to Monastiri beach (especially in the morning during summer).
Askeli beach
This is the main beach nearest to villa Yolanda.
From villa Yolanda, walk down about 70 steps, turn left on the main road and then walk for about 200m to the beach.
Aliki beach
This beach is on the Peloponnese and is a favorite day activity for us. Here is how we usually do it:
We hire a boat to the beach, and once there we order our obligatory morning Café Frappé!
Then, when we get hungry, we go to a close by taverna for lunch.
When we are ready (usually 4-5 in the afternoon) we return to Askeli by that same boat. Children get to steer the boat if they want to. Usually they do, and we have many a happy picture to show for it.
Super fun!

Watch our Follow-the-MonkeyTM videos and see the route to beaches, sites and other interesting places of Poros.
Follow-the-MonkeyTM videos are made by strapping an Insta360 panoramic camera onto Dad’s ' beloved Honda Z125 "Monkey” motorbike.
Note from Dad: Having purchased the Monkey against Management’s (Mom's) recommendations, these videos have resulted in Dad's weekly pocket-money* being suspended indefinitely. Dad has argued that the videos help our guests, and therefore justify the purchase of the Monkey... but to no avail...
The best deal Dad has been able to secure from Mom to date is this: if/when 100 email/notes that confirm the utility of these videos are received, then Management may reinstate the weekly pocket-money payments to Dad.
Therefore : Dear potential guest :-)) we kindly ask you to consider copy-pasting the following text when you send an enquiry:
"Note to Management: We have found the Follow-the-Monkey videos particularly helpful and fun, and therefore respectfully encourage you to consider reinstating Dad's pocket-money payments."
* paid for maintaining the garden and taking out the trash :-)
Thank you! The race to Dad's renewed financial security is on! :-))

Poros Weather
our take on it and some official charts
C
F
The climate of Poros is generally mild and pleasant most of the year, meaning from April and up to end of October, and even December some years. July and August are of course the warmest months where in extreme cases it can reach 42-45oC… but this is the exception.
April – June: spring weather, nature in bloom, the athletes can go swimming, bright colours everywhere. Temperatures are exactly what the body has ordered. Just great!
July – August: the hot ones. Sea is warm, temps are high-ish to high, sun is very bright, colors are more washed out. Lots of people around, beaches are busy, nightlife is firing on all cylinders!
September – October: probably the best time. Sea is BEAUTIFUL! Temperatures FANTASTIC. Colors are SWEET. And there are still enough people visiting the island and keeping it alive!
November-March: The cooler months. Much quieter and cooler. The brave still go swimming. You can get some stunning sunny days that are amazing. December and January things are really quiet though… bordering on “nothing moves” kind of a situation.
